Little-Known Way To Treat Osteoporosis

You’ve found this article maybe because you have been diagnosed with osteoporosis. While discouraging, there is hope. I’ll share with you my journey from osteoporosis to strong bones. It involves a great book and a powerful supplement for osteoporosis.

Best calcium supplement

Ahh, if only it was that simple. We just take calcium and Vitamin D and our bones magically return to normal. Well, calcium is an important ingredient in healing our bones but it is only one of many vitamins and minerals we need.

Read on to learn what vitamins and minerals you need to strengthen your bones.

Osteoporosis supplement

In 2014 I discovered a powerful osteoporosis supplement. No, this is not clickbait material or exaggeration. With this supplement and very little change in my lifestyle, I was able to reverse my osteoporosis.

I was diagnosed with osteoporosis in 2010 and tried the usual bone strengthening drugs recommended by my Orthopedic doctor. The only effect these drugs had was to give me chronic acid reflux which I deal with until this day.

My bones did not show any measurable improvement from taking these medications. It was one of those moments I realized pharmaceutical drugs maybe weren’t the solution.

My disclaimer

Before I dive into my alternative cure for osteoporosis, I want to share 2 things.

  1. I embrace any medicine or treatment (Western or Naturopathic) if it really makes us healthier.
  2. I am not a physician so anything I share here, should be taken only as my opinion and personal experience. This blog post is not intended to be medical advice.

How I discovered I had osteoporosis

I am a drummer by profession. I actually thought that carrying all of my gear around and pounding on the drums would help make my bones stronger.

Me in 2014 when I performed at the world famous Hawaii Ukulele Picnic.

This is why in 2010 I was shocked when I went to a health fair and had my bone density checked. They used a little machine you put your foot into and it measures the density of your heel bone.

The reading came back as osteopenia which is one level before osteoporosis. I later received a full bone density scan and was diagnosed with osteoporosis at age 39!

Something was wrong here. It seemed impossible for me to be so young yet have the bones of a senior citizen.

After following my Orthopedic physician’s advice and unsuccessfully treating my weak bones with strong drugs for one year, I started to do some research on my own.

A great book on bone health

Thank goodness we have the Internet. Online, I was able to discover many people with my issue and read about their cures or treatments for osteoporosis.

Through my research I learned about a book called “Better Bones, Better Body.” This book really opened my eyes to all of the vitamins and minerals our bones need to regenerate. I will tell you it’s a lot more than just calcium and vitamin D.

This is the book that taught me the vitamins and minerals I needed in a supplement for osteoporosis.

The book is primarily focused on women as women seem to suffer from osteoporosis more than men. Even so, there is ton of valuable information about improving our bone health.

In Chapter 11, the author details the nutrients our bones need to be the optimal density. When our bones become weak, they become porous and less dense.

The denser our bones are, the better. So Chapter 11 spells out exactly what we need to consume to increase our bone density. Page 253 has an invaluable table listing each essential vitamin and mineral and how much we should take of each one daily.

For copyright reasons, I can’t share the table but I encourage you to get this inexpensive book to see the list.

Vitamins for bone health

So, I knew exactly which vitamins and minerals I needed for my bones to get better. Next, I needed to find a supplement or supplements that would help.

First I tried finding a supplement for each of the vitamins and minerals on the list. That seemed kind of crazy though. I’d end up taking 20 pills a day!

I did a search on Amazon for bone density supplements and Osteo Prime Plus by Enzymatic Therapy came up. The label showed almost all of the necessary vitamins and minerals I found in the Better Bones, Better Body book!

This same supplement in the picture above has since been repackaged and is now called Osteo Prime.

Trying my new supplement for osteoporosis

I placed my first monthly order for Osteo Prime Plus and began taking it as directed. The only other change I made to my life was to increase my walking routine to 5-6 days a week for 1 hour each day. Other than that, I made no other consistent changes to my lifestyle.

I continued to get bone density scans every 3 months. For about the first 6 months, nothing seemed to be changing. At my 9 month scan, there was measured improvement. I moved into the osteopenia range. From there, my scans continued to improve each time.

Japan health checking

In 2016 I moved to Japan. Around that time I also stopped taking my supplement for osteoporosis. In Japan we have the option of taking a complete annual health check. I do this faithfully each year and one of the tests is for bone density.

In 2017 I had my first bone density scan in Japan and the doctor said my bones were as strong as someone in their 20’s! I knew my bones had strengthened but I was blown away that they had completely recovered.

Some ideas for exercise

The most important exercise for bone health is weight-bearing exercise. This means activities like walking, running, aerobics, lifting weights, etc… Anything were you are strengthening your muscles with the use of gravity.

I have a weight bearing workout routine I have done since moving to Japan and even wrote a blog about it. I use it to stay in shape for drumming but it’s a general workout and can benefit anyone.

If you’re looking for a workout that doesn’t involve a gym membership, you might give it a look.

Weight bearing exercise with a supplement for osteoporosis is a great combo.

Prevent osteoporosis

Of course, having gone through all I did, I would have rather prevented my osteoporosis. I think my condition was caused by poor diet. I was battling a wheat allergy for years and kept taking different foods out of my diet. At the same time, I was doing colon cleanses on a regular basis.

I believe these two things depleted my bones of the essential nutrients they needed. Our bones store key nutrients our vital organs need as well and when those nutrients are low, our bones release those nutrients to keep us alive.

I think my bones saved my life but at the same time took a beating and needed a recharge. Had I never changed my diet and didn’t do regular colon cleanses, I believe I would have never had osteoporosis.

How much calcium do I need a day?

Well, I think you know the answer by now. It’s not only calcium! Get all of the nutrients your bones need and you can improve your bone density and your quality of life.

Conclusion

From all that I can tell, the supplement was the main reason my bone density increased. There seem to be many supplements out there for various health problems that don’t actually work. It was nice to finally use something that actually did what is said it would do.

If you have been diagnosed with osteopenia or osteoporosis, I encourage you to look into the book and the Osteo Prime supplement.
